PokerStars poker room launches new poker client for UK-based poker players
The new regulations affecting UK-based poker players come into force on November 1. These laws, set by the UK Gambling Commission, mean that poker and casino operators who still wish to provide gambling opportunities for UK-based players will need to be legally registered in the UK. They will also need to pay the higher rates of tax that the new laws have put into force. Some poker rooms have created new UK-facing poker clients, while other poker rooms and casinos, such as Mansion Poker, All Slots Casino and Jackpot City Casino, have pulled out of the UK poker and casino market altogether.
One of the top three worldwide poker rooms, PokerStars, have made changes to their operations in light of the new laws, so from Monday, November 3, they will be introducing PokerStars UK, a brand new poker room especially created for UK-based online poker players.
If you're a UK-based PokerStars player, then once you log in after 14:00 GMT on November 3, your poker client software will automatically update itself to the new, UK-facing version. Don't worry, if you're a UK-based poker player you'll still be able to join your usual tables at PokerStars with players all over the globe - it's just that you need to be using the PokerStars UK client in order to do so.
To celebrate the launch of PokerStars UK, the global poker giant is running a special freeroll tournament series for all UK-based players. Check PokerStars' website for details of how you can join this exclusive, UK-only tournament.
